Today's Blurb Thursday, April 09, 2015

The number of Americans who applied for unemployment rose +14K last week after falling to the lowest level since April 2000 the week before at a revised 267K. The four week average for Jobless Claims fell -3K to 282,250; this is the lowest level since June 2000. Continuing Claims fell to the lowest levels since December 2000, down -23K to 2.304 Million. Yesterday the FOMC released the minutes from their March 17-18 meeting revealing that policy makers remain “split” on the timing for a rate hike lift off. Fed officials cited that geopolitical concerns, a stronger dollar, and overseas risks pose a threat to future growth. Since the meeting we have seen March Payrolls at 126K, breaking a yearlong streak of gains exceeding 200K, along with wage declines which will make it difficult for the Fed to implement rate hikes in the short term.
