Today's Blurb Thursday, August 4, 2016

The UST 10-Year yield is at 1.490% this morning after closing at 1.540% yesterday.

Treasury prices climbed globally this morning as an immediate result of the Bank of England’s decision to cut interest rates in response to June’s Brexit, their first rate reduction in more than seven years. The Bank of England’s benchmark interest rate was reduced by a 25 bps to a record low of 0.25%.

Initial Jobless claims rose by 3k from the previous week to 269k, which was a bit higher than the expected 265k consensus. Continuing Claims decreased by 6k from the prior week to 2138k. Friday’s employment reports should be able to provide further indication on whether or not we will see a rate hike in September or December. Factory Orders fell for a second consecutive month, down 1.50% versus down 1.20% prior revised. Durable Goods Orders also fell for a second straight month, down 3.90% versus down 4.00% prior.

The curve has bull-flattened with UST 10-Year yield down 5 bps from prior.
